The BCD Solway Sharks claimed an exciting 6-3 victory over the Whitley Warriors on Saturday evening in a match that counted as both a league and cup fixture.
Kim Miettinen (06:58) opened the scoring with a fin individual effort on the games first powerplay and (12:44) Stevie Moore doubled the home sides advantage when he slid home the rebound after Whitley netminder Richie Lawson saved from Struan Tonnar. The visitors responded well and reduced the deficit to one when Callum Watson netted after an extended period of pressure but Jordan Buesa (19:52) was on hand to restore the Sharks two goal advantage just before the buzzer.
In the second session Whitley looked far more like themselves and controlled the game for extended period scoring twice through Daniel Good (26:58) on a powerplay and Harry Harley (34:21) to level the scores by the second break.
Solway returned to the ice for the final session in a far more positive frame of mind and ran in three unanswered goals through Daniel Abercrombie (47:41), Marc Fowley (51:57) and Duncan Spears (55:06) to run out deserved winners by six goals to three.
Man of the Match Awards were presented to Richie Lawson for the Warriors and to Kim Miettinen for the Sharks.
