The BCD Solway Sharks moved seven points clear at the top of the Northern Cup league table with an excellent six-two road victory over the Blackburn Hawks on Saturday evening.
The outlook didn’t look too promising for the Sharks early on in the first period when the home side rushed into a two goal lead thanks to strikes from Richard Bentham (03:28) and James Royds (10:31) but gradually the bus legs began to wear off and Ross Murray (17:44) converted after being set up by Joe Coulter and Duncan Speirs.
Ben Edmonds (23:35) had the Sharks on level terms early in the second period when he converted after good work from Scott Henderson and Kim Miettinen. Struan Tonnar (27:25) gave Solway the lead when he scored from Ben Edmonds pass and a minute later Juraj Senko was the provider for Duncan Speirs (28:53) to score goal number four. The Hawks might have been looking forward to the second intermission but Daniel Abercrombie (37:27) had other ideas when he gave the Sharks a three goal advantage scoring from Kim Miettinens’ pass.
Any hopes of a third period comeback were quickly quashed when Daniel Abercrombie (41:16) found the net for the second time assisted by Connor Henderson and James Hutchinson. From this point on the Sharks expertly killed the game and ran out convincing winners by six goals to two.
Daniel Abercrombie picked up the Man of the Match Award for the Sharks.
