On Sunday the BCD Solway Sharks travelled down to Ice Sheffield to play Sutton Sting and left it to the very last minute to pinch a one-nil victory.
Solway were looking for a clean sweep over Sting having beaten them all three times tis season but right from the start it was clear that this was going to be a tight one with both teams cancelling each other out and chances were few and far between.
Both netminders when called upon produced the big saves required to keep the game scoreless. On another night a more clinical Sharks team would have had the game out of sight before Chris Rae made two superman type dives across his goal to prevent Sting from taking the lead late in the third period.
However, as potential champions often do, the Sharks somehow found a way to win the game. Well into the final minute Daniel Abercrombie found space at the far post to force home a shot with only thirty-two seconds left.
Sting immediately pulled their netminder i8n favour of an extra skater in an effort to save a point but despite a desperate scramble in front of the Sharks net they held on for what could prove to be two very vital points.
Chris Rae with an outstanding shut-out was the Solway Man of the Match.
