The BCD Solway Sharks completed an excellent double road trip weekend with a four-two victory over third placed Solihull Barons on Sunday evening to maintain their seven point lead at the top of the Moralee Conference.
Solway dominated much of the opening period restricting the home side to just two shots on Calum Hepburn’s goal but could only muster a solitary powerplay goal of their own when Marc Fowley (12:15) converted after good work from Juraj Senko and Joe Coulter.
The home side took the game to the Sharks at the beginning of the second period and goals from Joe Henry (21:25) and Tomas Janak (23:34) soon had Hobbs Moat Road rocking. Struan Tonnar (29:54) had other ideas and the Sharks captain linked well with Jordan Buesa and Kim Miettinen to level the scores by the mid-way point in the game.
With the game still tied at two going into the final session Buesa and Miettinen were quickly the providers once more with Stuart Andrews (43:14) the benefactor as he gave the Sharks a lead that they would never loose. Solihull tried hard to find a way through the secure Solway rear-guard but when they could get a shot on target they found netminder Calum Hepburn in fine form. With two and a half minutes to go Joe Coulter (57:28) settled the Sharks nerves when he pounced to net their fourth goal of the night after being set up by Jordan Buesa and Scott Henderson.
