The BCD Solway Sharks took a massive step towards regaining the NIHL Moralee Conference title with a comprehensive seven-one victory over second placed Billingham Stars at the Shark Tank on Saturday evening.
In a closely contested fixture the Shark quickly showed that they had brought their shooting sticks to the game and sped to a two goal lead with strikes from Kim Miettinen (04:31) and Jordan Buesa (08:01). Billingham refused to buckle and their attacking endeavours would have brought them a greater reward on most nights but they failed to take their chances and were restricted to a solitary strike from Michael Bowman (10:28). With the game finely balanced Solway took a decisive step towards victory when Stevie Moore (19:50) scored with just ten seconds left in the session.
The second period continued mas as the first had developed but again it was the home side who converted their chances with Jordan Buesa (34:27) and Ben Edmonds (37:01) scoring to give the Sharks a five-one advantage at the second intermission.
In the final session Solway generally controlled play and the referee, Mr Wardell, was not called on to issue a single penalty during the entire match, such was the sporting nature of both teams. The Sharks did find the net on two more occasions firstly through Struan Tonnar (51:43) and finally through Scott Henderson (55:09 pictured) after he was unselfishly set up by Jordan Buesa.
The Man of the Match Awards were presented to Jack Emmerson for the Stars and to Jordan Buesa for the Sharks.
