The BCD Solway Sharks regained momentum as they head towards the Moralee Comference Play-Off Weekend in Sheffield next month with a comfortable four-one victory over Solihull Barons in their penultimate game of the 2016-17 league season.
The fixture began with Solway on the front foot and Daniel Abercrombie (04:20) soon gave them the lead when he converted clinically after being set up by Stevie Moore and Kim Miettinen. While Solihull tried to hit back their attack held little cutting edge and it was no real surprise when Connor Henderson (10:27 pictured) extended the Sharks lead from close range with Daniel Abercrombie and Stevie Moore getting assists on the play. The Sharks continued to control play and three minutes left in the session Connor Henderson and Stevie Moore combined to allow Daniel Abercrombie (17:03) to net his second and the home sides third goal of the game.
In the second period Solway continued to dominate possession and territory but it took until just after the midway point in the game to extend their lead to four goals when Stevie Moore (30:42 PP) was the beneficiary of a swift attack instigated by Kim Miettinen and Daniel Abercrombie. Solihull continued to battle with spirit and were rewarded for their efforts when Josh Bruce (37:04) was able to redirect Ryan Selwoods’ cross/shot over Calum Hepburn’s shoulder and into the roof of the Solway goal.
The final period was something of a formality if truth be told. The Sharks continued to control much of the play while the Barons showed a willingness to attack when the opportunities arose but when they were able to break through the home defence they found netminder Calum Hepburn in fine form. It should be noted that Connor Ranby in the Barons goal also had a fine game saving forty-seven of the fifty-one shots that he faced.
The Man of the Match Awards were presented to Connor Henderson for the Sharks and to Connor Ranby for the Barons.
