The BCD Solway Sharks are delighted to welcome Czech defenceman Marek Charvat to the club for the 2017/18 season. Marek comes to the club having played in Poland last season and has also played in the USA and his native Czech Republic. Marek played a year in the WSHL where he amassed fifty-one points from fifty-one games from defence which paved the way for a move to Poland’s top league. Last season Marek played with GHK Jastrzebie and helped the team make the top six split and then play-off’s.
Marek has been given a positive overview of the Sharks and town from ex-Shark Jan Fisera who is a close friend, so he should know what to expect in UK hockey.
Head Coach Martin Grubb commented “I am very happy to be able to bring Marek to the club and he fits in with our teams philosophy of young player who are hungry to succeed. It became clear once we started talking that he wanted to come here. We have watched the videos and received glowing references. It’s clear that he is a young player who loves to compete, plays solid in his own zone and can jump into the play and add points from defence which will suit our team. I like players who have a desire to succeed and Marek definitely has that. Marek has already done some research into our team and was able to call upon his good friend Jan Fisera’s first hand knowledge. I know he will fit in perfectly with our group and I am excited for him to get here.”
Marek Charvat will wear the #24 jersey and is the 1st import on our roster for this season and we look forward to him arriving and skating with the team.
