Sharks announce charity partner 2017-18

The BCD Solway Sharks are delighted to announce that our charity partner for the 2017-18 season will be SWS RnR.

SWS RnR is a charity which provides much needed and appreciated holidays in Dumfries and Galloway for injured soldiers who have seen active service. In addition, we run two training programmes to help get ex-service men through the theory test to enable them to start driver training for heavy goods vehicles. We also provide training to get the SIA qualification which is needed to be employed in the security industry.

Archie Dryburgh Vice Chair of Southwest Scotland RnR said “I want to thank Solway Sharks management team for giving us the opportunity to be their charity partner for the next season. Small Charities like ourselves need the support of organisations like the Solway Sharks so that we can hopefully bring our clients to future games and get them to interact with the public at the home games in Dumfries which will allow them to build up their confidence.  At the same time we hope that it is mutually beneficial for Solway Sharks to get more supporters because of what they are doing for our charity, we believe this will be a successful partnership and look forward to working with the Sharks over the next season.”

There are lots of way in which people can get involved to help South West Scotland RnR provide more for wounded soldiers on an adventure holiday. Raising funds is vital to the organisation both for its immediate needs and for the long term future. People can help raise cash through all manner of sponsored events, pub quizzes, coffee mornings, whist drives, raffles. Not everyone feels fundraising is for them and there are many other ways of providing support for South West Scotland RnR. You could: organise a barbecue or picnic, invite a group of soldiers to your home for a meal, arrange a group activity, collect prizes for raffles, put RnR leaflets in public places, donate food and drink, tell people about the charity and its work.

Of course you can donate any amount you wish to the collection buckets at every Sharks home game. Every penny counts and every £2.50 SWS RnR receive pays for one hour’s care for a guest at their excellent residential facility including the activities which are available to Serving Soldiers and Veterans. As long as you are a UK taxpayer, SWS RnR can claim back 25p for every £1.00 that you give, at no extra cost to you. All you need to do is fill in a few details on their leaflet and tick the gift aid box.

The Solway Sharks are excited to be a small part in helping this very worthwhile cause and hope that you will help us to support them as you always do.
