The BCD Solway Sharks returned to winning ways on Saturday evening at the Shark Tank with a comprehensive fourteen-nil victory over an under strength Dragons side who lost their head coach the previous Monday.
From the outset it was clear that the Dragons had come to defend with damage limitation foremost in their mind. With that said it took an extended five on three powerplay for the Sharks to open the scoring through Ross Murray (11:21 PP) and with the original penalty being a two plus two minor the Sharks retained a two man advantage. Twenty seconds later Solway doubled their advantage when Duncan Speirs (11:48 PP) netted his first goal back in Sharks colours.
After the first interval the Sharks continued their onslaught on the visitors goal and perhaps the only surprise was that they only ran in a further three goals courtesy of Connor Henderson (25:54), Kyle Horne (28:55) and Vaclav Kolarik (34:31 SH).
As the game moved into its final session the floodgates finally gave way and the Sharks were able to run in a total of nine unanswered third period goals through Connor Henderson (42:14 & 50:43), Marek Charvat (43:08), Vaclav Kolarik (48:13 & 54:47 PP), Duncan Speirs (52:24), James Hutchinson (55:29), Joe Coulter (56:03) and finally Scott Henderson (56:49).
Over the course of the game the visitors can take heart from the fact that they didn’t let their heads drop until late in the game and from the performance of netminder Jonah Armstrong who made a string of fine saves and one superb glove save in the first period.
Man of the Match for the visitors was presented to Geoff Wigglesworth and to Connor Henderson for the home side.
