Sharks snap up elite league forward:

Building Craftsmen Dumfries-sponsored Solway Sharks are pleased to welcome a second new import player for this season as Canadian forward Cale Tanaka joins the Sharks as player-assistant coach.

The 32-year old Ontario native is a six year Elite League veteran here in the UK, playing for Hull Stingrays, Coventry Blaze, Dundee Stars and most recently Braehead Clan.

Tanaka scored over 50 goals and 150 points in the Elite League and brings his speed and natural tenacity to the Dumfries Ice Bowl for the 18/19 NIHL season.

Head coach Martin Grubb is happy to bring top level experience and leadership to the squad in the form of Cale Tanaka.

“I am delighted we have been able to bring Cale to the club in a player-assistant coach capacity and I’m really looking forward to working with him,” said Grubb.

“His experience will be invaluable to our team and his attitude, leadership qualities and ability have instantly made our team much better.

“Once we knew Cale wanted to keep playing it was an easy decision for us to bring him to the club and when we started talking it was very clear that he was the right fit for us and we knew we wanted him here.

“He could easily still be playing in the EIHL but with his work commitments we were a better fit to allow him to continue playing and being a major contributor to a team.

“He will combine his playing along with coaching responsibilities and we will lean on his experience to ensure we help our players develop and I think everyone will benefit from working with him.

“I am excited to have Cale here and look forward to seeing him in a Sharks uniform.”

Solway’s new #13 can’t wait to get started.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Martin and everyone at Solway. I think it’s a great way for me to still play the game I love, as well as to help develop those who want to continue moving forward in their hockey or other careers,” Tanaka said.

“I want to bring my experience to Solway and help Martin make us a threat to those at the top of the table every night. The team did well last season but we want to take our performances to the next level and I want to make sure I help the team move forward.”

Cale Tanaka’s jersey is available in the Own & Loan scheme at just £100 per shirt. If you are interested in this or any sponsorship options then email rab.murray@solwaysharksihc.co.uk.
